40 = 35

The Civic Association of Non-Union Employees, or CANUE, of which I am a member of, held a lunch meeting to update the membership on the status of the compensation review. As I mentioned in an early post, one recommendation is the creation of a 40 hour work week. Well, it seems that if the regular business hours of your workplace are 35 hours, you will continue to work 35 hours, but it will be called a 40 hour work week. Huh? This 'new' math is very confusing. Some of us are predicting that senior management, with Council's blessing, will incrementally increase business hours from 8:30 am-4:30 pm to 8 pm to 5 pm. If the hours change without a pay increase, the change amounts to a 13% reduction in pay. This is all very interesting and we will find out next Wednesday what Council approved in terms of the compensation review.
